Centervue® - DRSplus Retinal Imaging "Camera"

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
- Arthur C. Clarke

There are technologies in the 21st century that open our eyes to worlds we have never truly seen, connecting us with each other and accessing an information and knowledge universe that just keeps unfolding right before our eyes.

Berlin Optical Expressions is thrilled to introduce our clients and community to the Centervue® DRSplus from icare USA. The DRSplus “uses white LED illumination to produce TrueColor and detail-rich images, setting a new effective and efficient standard of Retinal Imaging.”

In layman’s terms, that just means this new diagnostic technology is designed to create incredibly detailed, high-quality images of your eye!

There are a host of technological features packed into the DRSplus much like all the apps and features packed into your smartphone. All of these are designed to help us access and examine the most advanced, flawless images of your eyes possible, and they all sound super-cool like “the mosaic function,” “true color confocal imaging modalities,” and “remote viewing.”

While we’ll be geeking out behind the scenes with all the innovative functions the new tool has to offer, what does the DRSplus actually mean for you?

Close Encounters of the Eye Kind

The first thing you’ll notice is that the DRSplus allows your optometrist to produce high-quality color images of both of your eyes in under 10 seconds! If nothing else, that means you have more time to discuss the findings with your doctor, instead of sitting through a longer imaging process.

The DRSplus can take retinal images through cataracts and eliminates the need in most cases for dilating drops and dark environments. No more will you have to sit in the office waiting for your pupils to dilate when the DRSplus can take images through pupils as small as 2.5mm.

The clarity and detail of the images allow your doctor to make much more accurate diagnostic observations of macular degeneration, glaucoma, and other retinal and eye-related diseases.

Advanced Field of Vision

Our medical and ophthalmological technology has come a long way since one of the earliest ophthalmoscopes was described by Hermann Helmholz in 1851. The DRSplus is only the latest in a wave of technological advances that are designed to improve both diagnostics and treatment.

Right around the corner, there are incredible innovations in the works like the Optovue iVue Optical Coherence Tomography with the potential to offer high-speed, high-resolution scans and reports of the retina, retina nerve fiber layer, and cornea. Or the Orbital Tissue Expander, Vitamin E Infused Contact Lenses, and Retinal Implants.

The march of technology is relentless in its pursuit of greater, more powerful tools and treatments. For now, BOE is delighted to add the DRSplus to our clinical experience.

Make an appointment now to take a close look at your eye, and see for yourself!
